Gifted Inclusive Schools (GIS)
ABOUT US
Gifted Inclusive Schools (GIS) is a project run by Slum Girls Initiative, a registered CBO located in Korogocho Slum. GIS opened its door in May 2023 with a class of 23 children in play group. Today we have a total of 45 children (21 girls and 24 boys), 25 in play group (15 boys and 10 girls) and 20 in pp1 (9 boys and 11 girls). Next year the number will grow bigger since we will be opening our doors to pp2.
GIS exist to serve the most vulnerable children with Korogocho and the slums around like Mathare, Kiambiu and Dandora. We offer education, feeding program and sponsorship for the children

DREAM
GIS is an inclusive learning institution offering CBC curriculum. We offer a calm, loving and friendly environment to our learners. We want to be an only learning institution of its kind in Korogocho slum with modern learning equipment. We hope to be an only STEM school of its kind within Kasarani constituency. We are hopeful in near future we will be able to have a school van/bus that can pick and drop children from the nearby slum areas. We already have children coming from Kariobangi and Kariadudu slum already in school . Due to their tender ages these children struggle so much to get to school on time, with a van/bus in place we will be able to make their commuting much easier.
ENROLLMENT
GIS opened its doors in May 2023 with intakes only in play group. So far we have 22 pupils in play group. We will have intakes in 2024 in play group, Pre-primary 1, pre-primary 2 and grade 1. In 2024 we are looking at a population of 100 pupils.
Help us raise money for our humanitarian causes
SGI’s Vision is a society in which adolescent girls, young mothers and women at large, have equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, and are empowered to lead fulfilling and independent lives, free from discrimination and violence.
WHAT WE OFFER IN SCHOOL
- Conducive, child friendly, individualized and caring learning environment
- Feeding program – Our children get to take 10 O’clock porridge and a well-balanced meal at noon
- Child sponsorship – We serve the most vulnerable many who cannot afford to pay school fee. Our program allows any person who would be willing to adopt a child from a distance to step in. By being a distant parent you keep track of your child wellbeing in conjunction with the school administration. By choosing to adopt a child from a distant you cater for his/her school fees, learning materials, food, and medical care. You will also be able to support the child with home based care package
IMMEDIATE NEEDS
Our immediate need is as follows:
- Feeding program in school.
- Sponsorship for the children.
- Learning aid.
- Water storage tanks.
- To build a modern school kitchen.
In future we would like to have the following
- To acquire the land where the school is located.
- Well-equipped IT lab – It’s our desire our children start learning some computer skills as early as possible.
- Well-equipped music hall – CBC is a competency based curriculum therefore we need to tap on children talents early in order to nurture them for future prosperity. In the music hall we would like to have pianos, guitar, trumpets, drum sets, flutes and all the other musical instruments.
- Well-equipped home science lab with sewing machines and kitchen for those interested in cooking, baking and fashion and design.
- Well-equipped Art hall – This will help nurture children talent at an early age.
- Counselling room with a dark room – We are an inclusive school therefore we will need a darkroom and a well-equipped physiotherapy.
- Halls and bathrooms – Halls will be for meeting community members to conduct parenting 101 classes. We will also hold meetings with the girls in the program. Safe clean bathrooms where the girls in the slum can come in and groom without fear.
